TV on Sunday´s sucks. It really does. Choose between a quiz show with z listers and a crappy german subbed Hollywood flick. Nope, won´t do it. Rather check the iTunes store for new releases or browse the MySpace music pages on the quest for some new songs or bands to like. And look what I found:
Matt Costa´s new record "Unfamiliar Faces" - just bought it on iTunes. Matt is on Jack´s label. Yes, the Johnson one. But this time no laid-back surfer/bonfire stuff. Rather poppy folk. I like.
From there I headed over to Spinner.com. Really nice music site (though affiliated to AOL). They have a category I rss-feeded right away: MP3 Of The Day. Look what I found there:
The Presets: My People (D.I.M. Remix)
Caroline: All I Need (Owen Vallis Mix)
Mezzanine Owls: Snow Globe
Say Hi: Northwestern Girls
The Whigs: Right Hand On My Heart
Tyler Ramsey: Ships
Honorable mentions (unfortunately no full MP3´s anymore, therefor MySpace links):
Brooke Miller - World On A Whim (a more country-esque Rachael Yamagata)
Soft - Higher
Yoav - Beautiful Lie
West Indian Girl - To Die In L.A.
InnerPartySystem - Don´t Stop
Thank you Sunday. You´ve been good to me. See you next week.
It´s been a while again - I know. Lots of work, lack of sleep but surrounded by a great bunch of people dedicated to make this company successful.
After successfully having launched our three channels Sly-Fi, 99stories and Str33t in the past months we went live with www.hobnox.com on Novemver 1st. You may ask what Hobnox is all about, let´s say this the "official" way:
Hobnox is an online entertainment and rich-media publishing platform, where artists, producers, professionals and users can meet and work together on creative projects. We aim to create a springboard for artists, to boost their creative potential, support their works and connect them with the right people.
We´re kicking off with the Hobnox Evolution, a special contest for talented newcomers in the areas of film, music and urban culture. We offer artists professional support during all stages of their creative process.
Participants can upload their projects in the categories “Music”, “Film” and “Urban Culture” to win an “Artist Development Package” worth €25.000 in each category. Selected entries will be featured on the “News from the Evolution” show, which will be aired on our channels. The show will offer you the latest updates on the artists and their projects. Finally, the Hobnox Evolution Festival will present the nominees on the big stage in Berlin in February 2008 and the winner of each category will get to spend the €25.000 on a project of their choice with our help.
Check out some screen shots of the site and make sure to head over to the site to rate the submissions. Oh and tell all of your friends who might be interested in participating to join:
I can´t help but share this with you. I am not a big fan of Christmas songs - actually I hate most of them. What I like thougha bout Christmas is the feeling you get and the melancholy you dive into during the couple of days that for my part are mostly "recharging batteries days".
I´ve been listening to the song "Phantom Limb" from The Shins´ upcoming record a lot lately and have already blogged about it, I know. It´s just that particulary this song puts me in the mood for the upcoming holidays. It´s warm, beautiful and swinging. It´s a perfect Christmas song without using Christmas topics. I´m sure you´ll like it too. And by the way, the video is pure beauty.
If you´re undecided on what CD you´d like to give to someone you like for Christmas, head over to your local record shop and get this. It´s perfect for the holidays if you know that you´ll get a Christmas-song-overkill. And the one you´ll give it to will love you forever. Thanks Ben, that´s just great work.
